New version of Reload IMS LD editor

Phil is furiously working away on the new version of the LD editor for TENCompetence. I went tover to Bangor on Friday for a meeting with him and Dai. A mini site for the editor has been set up on the TENCompetence web site at http://www.tencompetence.org/ldauthor/, and we have set up a forum for the tool on the TENCompetence forum at http://www.tencompetence.org/forum/ under Learning Design>LD authoring tool.

CETIS meeting

We had a full day at CETIS yesterday with Oleg Liber, Dai Griffiths, Phil Beauvoir, Roy Cherian and Edwin Veenendaal (RayCom), talking about LD4P, DesignShare, TenCompetence and various linkages. We showed the initial user interface designs for Reload, and had some very useful discussions.

SLeD admin

Simon Hutchinson (UK OU) has enhanced the admin section in SLeD as part of the JISC D4LD project. A particularly good feature is the management of groups, which has been a major problem for us previously. Simon has added a clone feature that creates a new instance of a role (provide create-new has been allowed in the design), which is how groups can be created. Previously, we had to create a new run for each group. In the screen shot below role [13] has been cloned to produce a new role [15], which can have a different set of users assigned to it.

The management of sub roles has also been added (chairperson in the screenshot below) which previously had to be set up through the Clicc command line interface.

This is a really useful enhancement to the admin section.

Mythologies of Loss

I have been working on a UOL for Sebastian Groes of LHU to support a topic called Mythologies of Loss. An interesting aspect of this UOL is that a student is able to upload a piece of creative writing to the LD player, but can choose whether to make it available to other students to see. I have done this by setting up 3 proprties. One is a local personal property that represents the uploaded file. There is a second localpersonal property that is monitored by other students. A third property is set up for the student to set if they wish to "publish" the piece, in which case the monitored property is set to the value of the uploaded property. A proplem with this is that once the student has "published" a file, if they wish to "unpublish" it, there doesn't seem to be a way to set the monitored property to null.

PBL UOL

I have been working on the PBL units of learning for Chris Beaumont. The idea was that students would work in teams, and use role properties to share work. I had wanted to use create-new to define a new role for each team. However, this doesn't seem to be handled very well in SLeD, and so I have set up a run for each team. This is OK as long as teams don't need to collaborate with each other.

Back in action

Welcome to the LD4P Blog, which is a continuation of the LD4P Journal. I have started this blog because, as of Christmas 2006, I have lost direct control of the LD4P website as hosted at Hope.

I will also include activity on the D4LD project in this blog.
